Our mission is to welcome, teach, encourage and mentor women in all walks of life through friendship, Bible studies, and service projects within our congregation, the community of Mesquite, Texas, and the world.
Our Vision
Scripture is the guiding principle in our studies, activities, work and personal relationships. We develop a strong foundation of faith to pursue a growing relationship with Jesus. We pray for one another and provide discernment, wisdom and peace so that our members feel love and acceptance, and are equip to serve others.
Areas of Involvement
We believe in experiencing the transformative work of Christ in our lives in the following areas of involvement:
This class is taught by one of our elders and meets at 10 a.m. every Wednesday in the Fishbowl classroom during the months of September to May. The Ladies also sponsor various service projects throughout the year, which includes the following: visitation, birthday parties for residents at Christian Care Center and an annual Christmas project for several local nursing home residents. Contact Donna Cummings for more information.
Ladies meets at 7 p.m. every Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall during the months of September to May, for time to connect to one another as they study the Scriptures, pray, and encourage one another. This class also shares joy and sorrows through prayer requests each week and serves the community with various service projects. Contact Janet W, Diane M, Brenda B, Debbie W, or Marion H for more information.
Sisters In Service meet every Monday from 9-11:30 a.m. in Building B. Simply show up for an opportunity to fellowship with some sweet ladies while serving the "least of these" (Matthew 25:24-40).
The Lord is working through the Sisters in Service (SIS) Ministry at Mesquite Church of Christ. SIS has been meeting and making items since 1998 producing approximately 1,200 items a year for Children's Hospital, Texas Cancer Centers, Mesquite Area Nursing Homes and other various Hospitals and Children's Homes. They also make wedding quilts for our newlyweds and baby quilts for our new babies in the congregation. During the holidays each year, SIS delivers lap quilts to one of our area nursing homes. The ladies get the opportunity to go from room to room visiting with each resident and giving them a lap quilt. It is their "feel good day of the year".
This ministry helps not only the recipients, but the ladies working together for the Lord. It offers a very gratifying way of serving others. The fellowship of being together with other Christian ladies and serving others is a wonderful blessing!
SIS has been honored by being nominated by Children's Hospital and becoming a finalist in the Dallas County Volunteer Group of the Year Award, plus an additional award for their annual Volunteer Group of the Year. SIS was also a finalist in the American Cancer Society's Caring Spirit Award.
Renew your spirit with other ladies at the Ladies Retreat. This annual event occurs Friday evening through Saturday afternoon at various locations near Mesquite, Texas. A committee of volunteers engages dynamic speakers, plans fun and faith-building activities, and offers opportunities to fellowship with other ladies in order to encourage and revitalize your spirit. Contact Debbie Threats, Stacey Esner, or Leslie Girvin for more information.
Small groups of women meet in the homes of members at 7 p.m. on the 3rd Tuesday evening on a monthly basis from January through June to build relationships with one another. A light supper is served while fellowshipping with one another, followed by a short devotional talk and prayers. All ladies of the congregation are welcome to participate. Contact Diane Mickelson for more information.
Volunteers prepare and serve a luncheon to families before or after the funeral service of their loved one. This is a gift of love and caring during a difficult and sad time of life. Each team rotates on an on-going basis to prepare and serve meals under direction from a team leader. The church provides an entrée and volunteers donate a side dish or dessert. Contact Jackie Dewoody for more information.
Ladies and young teenagers support families by staffing the attended nursery during the Sunday morning worship. Each week, volunteers are assigned to care for babies 6 weeks to 2 years old in the nursery. The nursery has a changing table, rocking chairs and toys. Volunteers serve 2-3 times in a six month period. Contact Donna Brown or Holly Belt for more information.
